Introduction:

Having unprotected sex around ovulation days generally put a woman under a lot of anxiety about whether or not she will conceive. The urge to take a test as soon as possible is sky-high. It is all understandable but the hCG hormone needs to be at certain concentrations to be detected as positive pregnancy and it happens a few days after implantation of the embryo.

Significance of Ovulation— The Fertile Window:

Ovulation refers to the time around which the egg leaves your ovary and enters the fallopian tubes to be fertilized by the sperm. The ovulation generally occurs 14 days before the expected date of the next period.

For a woman with a 28-day cycle, ovulation occurs on the 14th day of the cycle. For women who have cycles longer than 35 days, ovulation usually occurs on the 21st day. The time varies depending on the respective cycles.

The ovulation time is the fertile window of a woman because that is when the sperm can fertilize the egg. Since sperm can stay in the female body for 5 days, the fertile window includes 3 days before ovulation day and a day after ovulation as well.

If you had unprotected intercourse anywhere in the fertile window the chances of getting pregnant are really high.

Can You Take a Pregnancy Test at 11 DPO?

Although you can take a test at 11 DPO, it is still early because hCG concentration might not have reached detectable levels.

WHY?
Because implantation occurs 8-10 days post ovulation according to research. And according to another research, it takes at least 2 days to build up enough hCG in the body to be detected by home pregnancy tests.

So,
11 days post-ovulation is not a very good time to take the test. If you must take it, make sure that you buy the most sensitive test for accuracy. It is better to wait another day for testing.

Getting a Negative Result at 11 DPO

Getting a negative result at 11 DPO may not be accurate. If you get a negative result repeat the procedure 24-48 hours later, and you will probably get accurate results. But, nothing is certain until your periods come.

Getting a Faint Positive Result 11 DPO

Getting a faint positive line on the pregnancy test might mean that you are pregnant but the hCG levels are still low and can not produce a darker line. Repeat the test in 48 hours to be sure. Make sure that you take the test first thing in the morning because the urine is most concentrated at that time.

What is Happening in the Body 11 days post Ovulation?

If the sperm has fertilized the egg, the embryo has already implanted in the uterus and started producing hCG. Implantation also prevents from uterus line from shedding i-e no periods.

If fertilization has not occurred, your luteal phase is about to start. The progesterone levels are almost declining and the periods will begin in a few days when the uterus sheds its lining.

What Symptoms Do You Feel at 11 DPO?

First thing first, 11 DPO is too early to feel any pregnancy symptoms at all. The symptoms that you feel at 11 DPO are due to the hormone progesterone. So whether you are pregnant or not, you will have the same symptom.

These symptoms include:

Nausea

Sensitive Breasts

Fatigue

Elevated Temperature

Increased Heart rate

What Happens if Implantation Occurs at 11 DPO?

The normal implantation window is 8-10 days and sometimes it occurs as early as the 6th day. But when the implantation occurs late, the chances of miscarriage increase.

The implantation of the embryo at 11 DPO has high miscarriage chances and at 12 DPO the chances increase up to 80%. The pregnancy test is positive at least 2 days after implantation. So if you get a positive result at 11DPO, the implantation has already occurred and there is no need to worry.

Can Implantation Bleeding Occur at 11 DPO?

The implantation occurs anywhere between 6-10 days after ovulation. The implantation takes about 4-5 days to complete. So, yes. At 11 days post ovulation, you might get implantation bleeding. Ithe implantation bleeding can often be mistaken for the early periods.

Implantation bleeding only lasts a couple of days and is lighter than normal menstrual bleeding. But some of the symptoms of implantation are similar to menstruation like lower abdominal pain, cramping, fatigue, and increased body temperature.

The implantation bleeding stops in a couple of days. If you are pregnant and it continues for more than that, seek professional guidance.

Can You Get a Blood Pregnancy Test at 11 DPO?

You can go for a blood test but it is still the same. The most sensitive test for urine pregnancy detection detects 6.3 mlU/mL of hCG in the body which is almost equal to what a blood test can detect. So there is no need to opt for a blood test this early in pregnancy.

If you need to do a pregnancy test, go for First Response Early Results test. It is a urine-based test and the most sensitive home-based pregnancy test out there.

Sum Up

11 days post ovulation is not a very good time to take a pregnancy test because the hCG levels might be too low to get accurate results. Even a negative result at 11 DPO does not rule out pregnancy. 11 DPO coincides with the beginning of the luteal phase in non-pregnant females where the progesterone levels rise and you feel symptoms that might feel like early pregnancy symptoms. The best way to be sure is to perform a test at least at 12 DPO and wait for the missed periods to be sure.
